Return on Assets What It Is and How to Use It
Return on Assets What It Is and How to Use It SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The business world is full of acronyms, and keeping them all straight can be tough. What is Return on Assets, also known as ROA? Read on to learn exactly what ROA is, how you can use the ROA formula to calculate it, how ROA relates to similar financial ratios, and, most importantly, what you can learn about the success and future of a company from its ROA. What Is Return on Assets? Return on assets (sometimes known as Return on total assets) is a financial ratio that tells how much profit a company can generate from its assets. Successful businesses are able to earn more money from their assets, and ROA tells you how well a business is doing that. In general, the higher the ROA, the better the company is doing because higher ROAs indicate a company is more effectively using its assets to generate profits. In other words, theyââ¬â¢re earning more money on less investment. How Do You Calculate Return on Assets? Return on assets is calculated as the ratio of the companyââ¬â¢s net income to its average total assets. Net income (also known as net profit) is the amount of total revenue remaining after accounting for all expenses. Total assets are all the resources a company owns that have economic value. Hereââ¬â¢s the ROA formula: ROA = Net Income à · Average Total Assets For example, if a company has $20,000 in total assets and generates $2,000 in net income, the return on assets calculator tells you that its ROA would be $2,000 / $20,000 = 0.1 or 10%. An ROA of 10% means the company earned $0.10 for every $1 it has in assets. What Does ROA Tell You? The return on assets ratio is a way to determine how well a company is performing. It shows how well a company can convert the money used to purchase assets into profits. As mentioned above, higher ROAs are generally better because they show the company is efficiently managing its assets to produce more net profits. In general, an ROA over 5% is considered good. However, ROA can vary by industry, so instead of comparing one companyââ¬â¢s ROA to a completely different companyââ¬â¢s ROA to try to see which one is doing better, youââ¬â¢ll get more accurate data by comparing one companyââ¬â¢s current ROA to its past ROA or to the ROA of another company in the same field. Here are the ROAs of several well-known companies. Notice how much they vary from each other. You could compare the ROA of Facebook to the ROA of Snap (Snapchatââ¬â¢s parent company) and say pretty confidently that Facebook provides a better return on assets than Snap because the difference (23.97% vs -40.62%) is so great and also because theyââ¬â¢re in the same industry. However, you shouldnââ¬â¢t compare to ROA of Facebook with, say, the ROA of McDonald's because the two are in completely different industries. The data below is the ROA of each company from October through December 2018, and it comes from Macrotrends. Facebook: 23.97% McDonald's: 18.50% Target: 7.03% Exxon: 6.08% Snap: -40.62% New York Times: 6.36% General Motors: 4.25% Tesla: -3.42% Additionally, keep in mind that ROA isnââ¬â¢t a surefire way to gauge how well a company is doing because, like any other single financial value, it doesnââ¬â¢t include the whole picture. For example, companies with large initial investments will typically have lower ROAs, even if theyââ¬â¢re doing well. Knowing additional financial ratios of a company will give you a better idea of how well it's doing compared to just looking at its ROA alone. We discuss two other key financial ratios in the next section. How Is ROA Different From ROE or ROI? Like ROA, Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Investment (ROI) are ratios used to measure the performance of businesses. Understanding the differences between the three will help you get a more complete view of how well a company is doing and how different factors are impacting its success. ROA vs ROE Both ROA and ROE measure how a company uses its resources. However, ROE only measures the return on a companyââ¬â¢s equity and doesnââ¬â¢t account for a companyââ¬â¢s debt. ROA does include the companyââ¬â¢s debt. The more debt a company takes on, the higher its ROE will be relative to its ROA, and if a company has no debt, its ROE would equal its ROA. Hereââ¬â¢s the formula for Return on Equity: ROE = Net Income à · Shareholder Equity Both ROA and ROE have net income in the numerator, but ROE has shareholder equity in the denominator. Shareholder equity = assets - liabilities. That inclusion of liabilities is the difference between ROE and ROA (ROA only has assets in the denominator). Investors typically use both values to determine how well a company is doing. The ROE value shows how effectively investments are generating income, while ROA shows how effectively the companyââ¬â¢s assets are being used to generate income. ROA vs ROI ROI evaluates the impacts investments have had on a company during a defined period. Hereââ¬â¢s the ROI formula: ROI = (Earnings - Initial Investment) à · Initial Investment Because assets and profitability of businesses can vary widely across industries, ROA is typically only useful for comparing similar companies within the same industry. ROI, however, can be used to compare companies in different industries because analysts can use ROI values to determine which company, in any industry, will return the most profits if they choose to invest in it. Summary: Return on Assets Ratio The return on assets ratio is a way to tell how much profit a company can generate from its assets. The ROA formula is: ROA = Net Income à · Average Total Assets The return on assets formula is one useful way to measure a companyââ¬â¢s success, and, in general, the higher the ROA, the better. However, donââ¬â¢t rely exclusively on ROA to determine if a company is doing well, and donââ¬â¢t compare the ROAs of companies in different industries, since difference industries typically have different average ROAs. Business Report Lab Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Business - Lab Report Example As it is seen, the most of customers are between 31 and 50 years (58 %). The same percentage of customers are 20-30 years old and 51-60 years old (15 % and 18 % respectively). 9 % of the customers are older than 60. The same approach is used to estimate the percent frequency for the net sales. The minimum sale is 13.23 $, and the maximum sale is 287.59 $. Ten bins are defined and COUNTIF Excel function was used to determine the percent frequency distribution. The results are presented in the Table 4. 3. To get a cross tabulation of type of customer (regular or promotional) versus net sales it is necessary to separate net sales for these two groups and than define frequency for the established bins. As it is seen from the table for each sales region, the number of customers is greater for the group of promotional customers. The difference between two groups increases with the increase of net sales amount. For instance, the net sales for the region 13-40 $ is 1.7 times greater for the group of promotional customers; more than two times greater for the regions 40.01-68 $ and 68.01-96 $; and three times greater for the range 96.01-180 $. Net sales greater than 180 $ are only in the group of the promotional customers. The most of sales was made for the sum less than 124 $. Within this range, two times more sales were made in the group of the promotional customers. The following conclusions can be made based on the results of the statistical analysis. Most of customers are married women between 30-50 years and use Proprietary Card as a preferable payment method. More than a half of customers buy 1-2 items, and, typically the purchase amount is less than 124 $. As the promotional coupons were not sent to the regular clients, the promotion attracted more clients that are new. The amount of net sales for the group of the promotional customers is more than 2 times greater than for the group of the regular customers. Discounts also attracted the

The beam of length 1.3 meters was initially placed firmly on the cast iron bed with the assistance of simple supports A and B placed 1 meter apart. The load was then applied by use of the mass hangers at a gradual incremental rate, while the measurements were recorded at each and every stage. The next step that ensued was the aspect of bringing in some sort of variations with regards to the length while the initial procedure was repeatedly done. The material under test was then altered such that, in each and every instance it was only the cross sectional breath that changed. This was repeatedly done at various levels as the mid span deflection at each stage was measured (in mm) with regards to the subjected conditions. The next step that followed suit was the aspect of altering the tested material such that in each and every instance the cross-sectional depth was the only variable that changed. Under this stage, the rate of deflections were also measured and recorded accordingly. Al l the obtained values were then clearly recorded and compiled so as to assist later during analysis whereby, the values that were arrived at were subjected to massive scrutiny and comparisons with the existing facts and figures under each and every experimented condition. Using 0N as the minimum and 150N as the maximum, the mass of the load was adjusted by increasing each trial consequentially by 25N. All this was done keeping these values constant: L=1m, b=20mm and d=14mm. Values obtained were recorded as below Using a minimum length of 0.6m and a maximum of 1.2m, length of the load was varied in split

The start of any evolutionary story told about us lies within the origin of the eukaryote cell. This remarkable event consisted of a revolution of cell type matched in momentousness by the arrival on the biological scene of the prokaryote (Oââ¬â¢Malley). Bacteria had a couple billion years head start on eukaryotes and have given rise to many biochemical processes that are essential to the ecosystem (Wernergreen). One organism living within another defines endosymbiosis. Nobody can say the exact origin of the eukaryote cell. The endosymbiosis theory dates back to the earliest 20th century and devotion to different models of its origins is strong and adamant (Oââ¬â¢Malley). This theory was developed from the combined efforts of many different researchers. Together, Konstantin Mereschkowsky, Boris Mikhaylovich Kozo-Polyansky, Ivan Wallin, and Lynn Margulis are the main researchers whom coined the term ââ¬Å"symbiogenesisâ⬠referring to the long term, or permanent physical association between ââ¬Å"differently named partnersâ⬠(taxa), or the genesis of new species through the merging of two or more existing species (Margulis). Endosymbiosis and symbiogenesis define hypothetical theories thought to justify the origin of species in addition to the processes of natural selection and random mutation. B.M. Kozo-Polyansky and Lynn Margulis, who very much admired Kozo-Polyanskyââ¬â¢s work, both believed symbiogenesis was the major source of innovation for evolution (Margulis). The most well known of the first speculations about the origin of organelles, was Mereschkowsky. He primarily studied the chloroplast and was the first to suggest they were obtained initially from unicellular organisms that had been ââ¬Å"enslavedâ⬠as endosymbionts. However, his theory was turned ... ...hemical energy from cyanobacteria (the only bacteria that can perform photosynthesis) 2.4 billion years ago (Wernergreen). The first chloroplast came into being about one billion years ago when a single-celled protist and a cyanobacterium came together through endosymbiosis, and this first photosynthesizing eukaryotic lineage was the ancestor of land plants, green algae, and red algae. Cyanobacteria and algae endosymbionts have spread photosynthetic capabilities in such a broad range (Wernergreen). In other words, heterotrophic prokaryote cells had taken in autotrophic photosynthetic bacteria cells. The ingested cell continued to provide glucose and oxygen by photosynthesis. The host cell protected as well as provided carbon dioxide and nitrogen for the engulfed cell and overtime both cells lost the aptitude to survive without each other (Weber and Osteryoung).

Peaceful End of Life Theory This paper is written to examine Corneila Ruland and Shirley Mooreââ¬â¢s Peaceful End of Life Theory and its examination on promoting positive outcomes for patients and their families during the dying process. Also, examine how the theory is understood in the Christian view as well as viewing ethical principles. As a Critical Care nurse I care for the dying patient mostly on a daily basis. During this process, I not only want to care for the dying but, I want to learn how I can ease the pain and heart break of the family.During my study of Theory and Ethics, I discovered Cornelia M. Ruland and Shirley M. Mooreââ¬â¢s Peaceful End of Life Theory. This theory shows how theory addresses the holistic care required to support a peaceful end of life. I found this theory to be useful by being free of the suffering of distress, providing comfort, respect as a human being, having peace and by being with those who care. (Martha Raile Alligood, PhD, RN, ANEF, An n Marriner Tomey, PhD, RN, FAAN, 2010). Ruland and Moore theorize that with easing fears of death, it can be a peaceful end of life event. Not just by providing daily needs and task but, also by caring for the dying (2010, p. 754). Many factors contribute to end of life situations for all patients, families, and health care providers. During the Peaceful End of Life Theory the standard of care is based on research in areas of pain management, comfort for the patient, nutritional needs for the patient, and relaxation needs (2010, p. 755). These factors are influenced by age, history of illness, religious values, and heath care concerns. Most of our efforts as humans are to improve our quality of life.Understanding the importance of having a peaceful transition into another stage of life is beneficial. Death is always inevitable and always a factor in the lives of family members facing such a stressful time. We should strive to help minimize pain and suffering at the end of our lifeâ⠬â¢s journey with peace and comfort. Providing comfort is the most important part of quality care with an advanced illness. Within the peaceful EOL theory there are major concepts that are examined and reviewed by patients that are in the dying process. EOL care focuses primarily on comfort when a cure is no longer possible. Also, being free of pain is mostly the central part of many patients going through the EOL experience. A treatment plan should take place when a patient is experiencing pain. Becoming pain free is one of the major concerns of people dying (Dunn, 2001). To have peace with yourself and your loved one, you must distinguish your pain from their pain. Showing respect and having dignity helps the patient feel that they are still loved and cherished as individuals. Having peace with the decisions they have made and the outcome helps the patient transition over into the EOL concept.I feel that if a patient is not at peace with death and dying then it makes it extremely hard for the family. If a patient is having no worries or fears to leave this earth, then they are physically ready, psychologically ready and spiritually ready to face the end of their life. The last concept to talk about is being close to their families in a trying time (2010, p. 756). Feeling at peace and having closeness to others helps the patient transition peacefully which could be the scariest part of dying. During any point of illness patients and families need to be prepared emotionally and spiritually for death (Dunn, 2001).Ruland and Moore identified six theoretical assertions for the peaceful end of life theory that include: monitoring and administering pain meds, getting family involved in decision making regarding decisions that need to be made for the patient, relieving physical discomfort by encouraging rest periods, relaxation, provide support to the patient and family members, encourage family participation with patient care and last, monitoring the patients comf ort, dignity and respect (2010, p. 757). Critique Clarity In the peaceful end of life theory all of its theory has been covered and has clearly been understood. The assumption of the theory, that providing comfort for the patient allows a better transition into the stages of the end of life to supporting the family through difficult times shows how the concept varies in different degrees, but are all important to the theory (2010, p. 758). Simplicity The EOL theory has been described as one of the higher levels of middle range theories. It focuses on what is important to the patient at the end of life and how the patient views life. It also has several different aims and aspects on how one values the comfort and dignity throughout the rest of their life (2010, p. 59). Generality The peaceful end of life theory concept came from a Norwegian context that based a study on the dying. The theory is based on not being in pain, the experience of comfort, having dignity and respect, being at peace, and allowing the patient to be close to significant others. This theory allows the standards to guide a person through the peaceful end of life and allows the family to respond and adapt (2010, p. 759). Empirical Precision Each part of the peaceful end of life concept is based on the inductive and reasonable part of guiding the practice. With the EOL theory its five concepts measured were mixed. Its observations were based on the patient and family perceptions of their care with the decisions made during the dying process (2010, p. 760). In the empirical precision the EOL theory illustrates that the five concepts were beneficial to the patient and the family. As nurses dealing with end of life issues, we strive to take care of the personal values of the patient but, also the medical, legal, and ethical aspects of the decision process get in the way. Sorting through these issues helps to gain respect with the family.Conflicts may arise with EOL decisions, but establishing repo rt with the patient and families helps focus on the primary values of care (G. Leigh Wilkerson, 1995). Often timeââ¬â¢s ethical issues play a big role in EOL care. For example, withdrawing care from a mechanical intubated patient is a big ethical issue. Are we prolonging life or are we delaying death. A lot of times holding people on through mechanical ventilation is not ethical. Sometimes patients get dependent on mechanical ventilation which delays death then the family has to make decisions to withdraw care.We should respect our patientââ¬â¢s autonomy and allow them the freedom to make decisions for themselves. We should practice beneficence, fidelity, and non-malfeasance as health care providers. Holding on makes it harder on the patient and prolonging the inevitable (Simon, 2008). As a Christian, letting my patient die with respect and dignity would be a victory in our Saviors eyes. Life is a gift. There is a time in everybodyââ¬â¢s life that our body is not growing an d healing, but failing. This is when we enter into another phase of our life. Having a peaceful end of life is choosing quality for the rest of your life.Reference Dunn, H. (2001). Hard Choices For Loving People 4th ed. Lansdowne, VA : A & A Publishers, Inc. G.
